The Sciences for Health Programs department delivers prerequisite coursework for students pursuing careers in the health care field, providing a comprehensive science and health foundation aligned with the requirements of diverse Health Sciences programs.

**POSITION OVERVIEW**

Santa Fe College is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor of Microbiology to join the Sciences for Health Programs department. This position is based primarily at the Northwest Campus in Gainesville, Florida, with the possibility of assignment to one of the College’s six locations across Alachua and Bradford counties.

Under general supervision, the Assistant Professor will develop, prepare, and teach microbiology coursework in didactic, laboratory, and classroom settings. The position carries a 9-month contract with a teaching load of 15 credit hours in the Fall and 15 credit hours in the Spring. Instruction may be delivered during the day, evening, online, or through other distance learning formats. Summer instructional opportunities may be available for additional compensation based on departmental needs. The application deadline for this position is 11:59 p.m. EST on March 9, 2026.

**CORE RESPONSIBILITIES**

* Plan, organize, and deliver instruction in didactic, laboratory, and classroom settings to promote student success  
* Support and advance college and departmental missions through excellence in teaching, curriculum enhancement, and service  
* Collaborate with department leadership and faculty to evaluate, revise, and develop curriculum  
* Demonstrate technological literacy and innovation in instructional delivery  
* Work collaboratively as part of an academic team  
* Assist with implementation of college policies, objectives, and procedures  
* Participate in departmental meetings and collegewide committees as needed  
* Provide timely assessments and clear feedback on student academic performance  
* Document student progress and maintain accurate records, including attendance, grading, and learning outcomes  
* Develop fair and accurate methods to assess student learning outcomes  
* Maintain appropriate office hours in proportion to instructional assignments  
* Provide service to the college through participation in events, committees, and activities  
* Protect the privacy and security of student records in compliance with state, federal, and college regulations  
* Comply with all published college rules, procedures, and laws governing public employees  
* Deliver service excellence through professional, courteous, and accessible engagement  
* Perform other duties as assigned  

**QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE**

* Master’s degree in biology, or a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in relevant biological or health science disciplines  
* Professional degree (e.g., MSN, MD, DO, DC, DVM, PT, OT, or similar) from a nationally accredited institution may be accepted  
* Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment  
* Strong adaptability, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills  
* Effective professional communication skills, both written and verbal  
* Sound judgment and critical thinking abilities  
* Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills  
* Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to accuracy  
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office and relevant instructional software  
* Commitment to ethical conduct, professionalism, and confidentiality  

**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**

* Relevant teaching experience within a community college setting  

**COMPENSATION & BENEFITS**

The starting annual salary for this position is $50,303, with compensation above this amount commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, 9-month instructional appointment. Summer teaching opportunities may be available for additional compensation based on departmental needs.
